Music adds much to worship at Holy Cross, is a real aid to faith and an important and integral part of worship. There are opportunities for everyone to join in as we cover a wide range of styles to support worship from the traditional to modern worship songs. Whilst most hymns are familiar to the congregation and relatively easy for newcomers, we like to introduce new music where appropriate.
Holy Cross has an enthusiastic choir to lead the singing at the Sunday services. The regular choir is eleven strong and there are other singers who are able to join us on occasion but not regularly. We are always ready to welcome new members, particularly altos, tenors and basses. The choir normally meets to run through the music for each service half an hour before the service starts but its main practice time is on a Thursday evening from 7.00 to 8.00 pm. If you would like to join, do get in touch or come to church on a Thursday evening to find out more.
We have a developing Worship Band using various alternative instruments to organ. They mainly provide the more modern styles of worship hymns and songs particularly at the All-Age Family services that are held monthly. Worship band practices are at various time advertised on the news sheet and would welcome new members, young and old alike. Similarly, alternative styles and genres adding to the repertoire, are provided by our very own trumpeter creating another dimension to our services.
Our aim as a music department at Holy Cross is to support and enhance worship and help lead people to God.
We welcome all who visit this House of God.
